Portrait of Miles, Person-Centred Therapist at Polaris Counselling Hub in Aberdeen

Hi I’m Miles

I offer a gentle, child-led approach to therapy, where the focus isn’t on fixing problems or setting targets, but on building a trusting relationship where your child can explore their world safely, in their own way and time. My sessions are grounded in the person-centred belief that young people already hold the wisdom they need; through a nurturing relationship, they can begin to process emotions, regulate their feelings and make sense of what’s going on inside.

Therapy with children and young people doesn’t need to rely on talking unless that’s what they prefer. For many, play is their first language. My sessions often centre around creative and playful expression, offering options such as construction, art, board games, roleplay, sand tray therapy or storytelling. Children are free to choose what and how they engage with each session and play becomes their way of exploring feelings, relationships, worries and the world around them.

Alongside my work as a therapist, I’m a primary school teacher and former Childline counsellor. These experiences have helped me deeply appreciate the many ways children and young people communicate, and how important it is to meet them with patience, acceptance and trust. I have experience supporting neurodivergent children and young people, including those with ADHD and autism, and I work in a way that honours each individual’s unique way of thinking, feeling and communicating.

Whether your child is talkative, quiet, creative, playful or uncertain, I aim to offer a space where they feel seen, respected and free to be themselves.
